Rat Pack, Brat Pack, Frat Pack

Evening movie goers,

Finally a new supergroup to talk about and one that for a change doesn't appear to contain any smart arrogant halfwits who don't deserve their money (or so it seems to me).

I am of course talking about the new Group buzzing around fim studios of America known as the FRAT PACK. Much like the previous groups before, it consists of a core group of around 4 or 5 key playas in the film market, people who can't necessarily act but who its currently essential to get into a film, and a supporting cast of friends who make the odd casual appearance.
For those who don't know, that core group is: Ben Stiller, The Wilson Brothers (Owen and Luke), Vince Vaughan and Will Ferrell. Their casual members are the likes of Jack Black, Tim Robins, old timers like Bill Murray et al.

But I think this current group is great. Obviously the previous "-at packs" had their appeal but this group is talented. They always nearly appear together in comedies and you can see the chemistry; they all worked to get where they are and they all seem genuinely nice film stars. The rat pack was cool, no doubt about it, and they just had it their way but ultimately they swaggered with too much of a "couldnt give a shit" attitude which ultimately led to their demise (read Rat Pack Confidential for further info). The Brat pack in comparison were cool and the fresh faced actors of tommorow. But they had it too early and devolved into their own personal hell of drugs and firearms offences (Judd Nelson springs to mind). It is nice though to see that most of these actors, like Jason Patrick and Kiefer Sutherland went on to work at getting their status back.

But the current group is great:
Ben Stiller: Good looking, funny always playing the beat-upon guy and also now producing and doing it really well. You have to like Zoolander.

The Wilson Brothers: Again both for the ladies, they add that cool calming presence to the group.
Vince Vaughan: I think one of the coolest people on the planet, the Dean Martin of the group, Vince should only play cool-dry funny roles. Whoever cast him in Get Shorty 2 should never work in Hollywood again.

Will Ferrell: The ugly one but the one with the laughing genes. The guy is a comedy genius - See Anchorman for further reference.

And so on and so forth. I just hope this group does not start doing bad movies just for the sake of the money - Dodgeball was a close call last year, but on the whole -COOL!
